The vision for Southgate Abbey is to develop a community where prayer is a principle part of the culture. For those who are called to a life of prayer the abbey provides a place. Living in the company of those who are similarly called provides the energy of shared passion which may be understood as synergy. Synergy is a scientific concept related to the power of combined efforts. The abbey culture provides an atmosphere of prayer in relation to others of similar calling, and together living the gospel fully out of intimacy with God in the community at large. Opportunities for both short term and long term stays at the abbey will be provided. This concept combines the best of both the Catholic and Protestant traditions of prayer as a vocation.
